  • Poor Quality From Dodge - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Theres a reason why GM and Chrysler are in economic trouble. My 2005 Grand Caravan sums it up. 1. Tie rods failed at 31000 miles, not covered by warranty, $350 cost. 2. Tie rods failed again at 68000 miles, $350 cost. 3. At 55000 miles fluid started leaking into rack and pinion boots. Caused engine (transmission?) to sound aweful. Replaced rack and pinion parts. $950 cost. 4. At 43,000 heating coil fried and had to be replaced. $250 cost. 5. Car has been recalled/inspected/fixed 4 or 5 times. 6. Dealer has 15K, 30K, 45K, and 60K mileage service plans, priced at 225, 400, 550, 700. Who pays that kind of money for routine service? A Joke compared to my past Toyota or Honda!

Bought this Grand Caravan SXT with 19K and 11 months old. Paid extra for extended warranty, got my moneys worth after replacing the Door motors SEVEN TIMES! Now post warranty, drivers side only opens auto (no manual door motor clutch stuck), passenger side is only manual, door motor shot. Radiator rusted at 80K, now just dies with no notice, no error code while on HWY at 50+ miles an hour. Hey Chrysler, try a curve at 55 with no power steering %^&*! Dealers and my mechanic cant find anything, no error codes. AC controls on dash, lights flicker on/off, poor solder in unit, had to replace. NOT SAFE, get a HONDA 2011 Odyssey like I did. Still have this Caravan for I cant sell it, unsafe!

I was happy with this van for the first year and after the 3rd year it seemed every thing went wrong .The air bag sensor went on twice after repair, abs sensor went on, my rear window shatter on its own, my automatic doors had to be fixed, front both tie rods loose had to replace, steering/suspension went bad had to replace lots of money went into to this vehicle after the 3rd year I dont even really drive this vehicle that much as you can see not so many miles. I had to take it back in after one week of driving because my engine sensor failed go figure! NOT HAPPY AT ALL. Had to fork out more money.

  • Spend the extra money and get a Honda!!! - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

This has been the worst car I have ever owned. I have had it for a year and 2 months. It has been in the shop 8 times, going in for its 9th time on Thursday. Water pumps, belts, 2 power sliding door motors, computer reset, and the rack and pinion: these are just a few of the things that have been wrong with it. We will be on our THIRD rack and pinion on Thursday. Im trading this in for a Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey.

I like the stow and go and the power side doors, thats about it. The van has been nothing but trouble since the warranties have run out, even tho they werent much help when they were in effect. At 32,000 miles the front brake on the passenger side ruined the rotor. Ive replaced both outer tie rods, both rear bearing assemblies, the EGR is failing, and my ABS sensors in the rear have both failed. There is an electrical gremlin which dims lights, causes the power accessories to quit, and left me windshield wiperless during a downpour. Wipers started working when the rain stopped. Dash has went dead on 3 occasions, tilt wheel malfunctioned, many more little things. Will never buy another.

I bought the van for reasons as everyone (stowaway seats). A day later I notices that the rear door was about 3/4 of inch off to one side, took it back to the deadler to have it fix. The service man said that it was common problem with this model and there was they can do about it. Also I took the van in for wheel alignment they found a bolt missing from one of the front wheel axles.

Major repairs starting at 5.5 years and 98k miles is not acceptable. AC died. Front tie rod issues. Constant rattling on every bump - service dept. never finds an issue. Serpentine belt never wanted to be a part of the vehicle. I cant believe how quickly it rusted! Have been driving Fords too, and havent seen that. We had enough.

  • Fleet manager says no more - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Managing a fleet of 500 vehicles and have about 100 Grand Caravans. Good practical vehicles but mechanical nightmares. Replaced 10 rack and pinion units in the last 2 years and many, many tie rods. Electrical issues are common as well. Primarily in the column and the multi-function switches. Beware, the new models (2008 or newer) use a new key system that will set you back over $100 to replace.

  • Do not purchase!! - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

I was expecting our 4th child, so we need a van. By 38,000 miles we had put $2100 worth of work into our van. Some was "normal wear": brakes and 4 new tires. I have never had to put brakes and tires on a car before 50,000 miles. Usually closer to 75,000 for brakes. The front axle broke, the water pump cracked, the check engine light and the oil light repeatedly come on. It drinks oil like crazy. I have to replace about 3-4 quarts between oil changes (which we do every 3,000 miles). There are lots of "small" plastic items that have broken off inside of the van. I will not own a Dodge again.

  • Stay Away - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

The worst vehicle I have ever owned. Been to the Dodge service department 18 times in the past 18 months. 40,000 miles and on 4th set of front brake rotors. Dealer cannot figure our why brakes wear out so quickly and told us that the brake parts are made softer so they dont squeal. Whatever! Have motorized side and rear doors. All motors have been replaced at least once. I purchased the largest extended warranty and already used it 3 times in 4000 miles. Cant wait to get rid of this one and will never purchase another Chrysler product again. I was hoping the merger with Mercedes would increase quality, but thats not the case. Dodge has great looking cars, but cant overcome poor build quality.
